Nortel Networks filed for Chapter 11 in a US bankruptcy court on January 14, 2009, determining that bankruptcy was in the company's best interest long term. In July 2009, Nortel entered into a pending asset and share sale agreement with Avaya Inc. for its Enterprise Solutions business for US$475 million. And, on September 14, 2009, in a significant and historic announcement within the enterprise communications market, Nortel accepted Avaya’s bid to acquire the assets of Nortel’s global Enterprise Solutions Business, as well as shares of Nortel Government Solutions and DiamondWare (in 2008, Nortel acquired DiamondWare and its 3D voice technology). The merger combines two market leaders in IP communications, each with well-respected product portfolios that target small to large businesses.

BT Meridian/Norstar

The BT Meridian Norstar Compact is a digital non ISDN key system with the ability to connect basic phones, cordless phones, fax or answer machine using an optional one circuit analogue adaptor. Up to six lines and sixteen extensions can be connected. The adaptor and all telephones are compatible with the BT Meridian Norstar Compact modular CCU. Some of the features are:

With up to 24 extensions and the option to work through ISDN2 the Meridian Norstar Compact Plus has been built to meet the telephony requirements of small businesses. A simple solution accommodating future growth, both in number of lines and the technology available to users.

The control unit differs from the original Meridian Norstar Compact by having two slots for the installation of either 4 port analogue trunk cards or 8 channel ISDN2 cards, which are switchable between ISDN2 lines and ISDN2 extensions through to the desktop. It also has an in-built Analogue Terminal Adaptor, which provides an analogue extension port for the connection of a two wire device like a fax machine.

The Meridian Norstar Modular 032 provides ISDN30 access as well as analogue trunks. Additional analogue trunks and key extension are added in modules in the same way as the Meridian Norstar Modular 824 system. An expansion card is required to add modules to the Meridian Norstar 032 control unit. Expansion cards come in either 2 module expansion or 6 module expansion. These cards plug directly into the Meridian Norstar 032 CCU. The trunk and station modules then connect to the expansion card with a single plug in cable.

The Revelation is a flexible, feature rich analogue telephone system. It can operate as a key system (calls answered by all extensions), as a PBX (calls answered by an operator) or as a combination of the above.
Control Unit sizes are:

• one line plus six extensions
• two lines plus six extensions
• three lines plus nine extensions
• four lines plus 12 extensions

Whatever size you start with, the system easily expands to the maximum capacity. Extensions can be used for key phones, standard telephones, fax or modem.
